When you call the Holiday Inn in Rocky Mount, the staff calls it "award-winning" when they answer the phone. It may have won some awards years ago, but right now it's in desperate need of updating. For example, the last time I stayed here my room's thermostat was broken and needed repair. This time the outlet between the beds doesn't work. The rooms are a little outdated, but clean. They're often out of coffee in the lobby. Besides one of the desk clerks, the staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant/bar looks a little rough, but the food is good and the portions are huge. We really like the restaurant staff. On the other side of 64 there's a Courtyard by Marriott that's much nicer and newer. Unfortunately my company books me the cheapest option, and the Holiday Inn usually wins.
We came to this location due to visiting friends that lived nearby. The location was perfect for us but the service isn't that great, it took forever for find someone to come to the front desk to buy snacks for the kids . Walking into our room was a very off musty smell that appeared to be coming from the curtains . The heater was located underneath the curtains which blew a awful smell into our room. Floors need to be vacuumed and the microwave was pretty gross it has some gooey stuff on the plate. As I was getting out of the shower some lady that worked here just walked into my room which is totally uncalled for and disrespectful. Room service has showed up just minutes before so they knew someone was here . Make sure to lock your doors !
Marion at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. They didn't have any rooms ready for early check-ins after our long drive so she offered to call my cell phone as soon as they had one ready. We were disappointed to learn that breakfast is not complimentary like we thought but otherwise have been satisfied.
Would have gotten 5 stars but the "heated indoor pool" was extremely cold. We had planned on this as our stop because of the pool. The desk staff was incredibly nice and polite, resteraunt was clean and good food. Rooms clean. Coffee was good and very hot. Drinks were good, not to expensive.
I was traveling home for Thanksgiving with my grandson, an infant. I stopped in at this location to feed him, clean him up afterwards and keep it moving. The dining room staff was extremely helpful in providing assistance in warming his milk and some good conversation. It was comforting to know that assistance is right at a local hotel. They instructed me where to sit to feed him. They were so helpful.
